Guiding words/ideas:
Walking away and moving towards what is next; being both decisive and present; emotional fullness has created this moment of change; an encouragement to not leave everything behind, especially ones feelings; a call for emotional maturity; moving forwards with a sense of wholeness and divine alignment.
Channeled guidance:
Here is a figure confidently walking away. They’re wearing a skirt or tunic that flows with the energy of their intention. This intention is to not merely walk away but to also walk towards. The landscape in front of them brims with intense energy: a rusty-orange sky and a very, very dark horizon. There may be stormy weather ahead. So this choice, to walk away and move into what is next, is not an easy one.
This version of the Eight of Cups invites us to be both decisive and present as we leave behind what isn’t working. The figure shown is walking away from seven little cups. These cups collectively represent a situation that no longer fits, one that has an abundance of emotional baggage. In these cups might be tears, conflicts, or unfulfilled dreams. They are full to the brim, and it is time to move on.
On the ground, near the figure, is one additional cup. This solo cup is a witness to the beginning of the new journey. It gently says, “I see you in this important moment, and I suggest that you not abandon everything. You don’t need to ignore your feelings. It is ok to move ahead with emotion and tenderness.” For sometimes in our bravery, we can build too tough of an outer shell and forget our vulnerability. This little cup gently invites emotional maturity into this scenario. One can be fully embodied and not reactive or hurtful when walking away. When we are hurt or trying to prove our independence, it can be easy to hurt others, to turn our backs on them, to even turn our backs on parts of ourselves.
This card suggests that it is possible to move towards this new and very complex horizon with integrity, kindness, and awareness. And then, instead of “leaving in a huff,” we find ourselves whole and in divine alignment as we move forward.
Plant and metal guidance:
Copper oxide (dark green of skirt, light blue/green of underskirt and fluid in cups): I magnify the properties of whatever plants I touch or impact.
Chokeberry (dark blue swirls on skirt): Our energy expands and contracts as needed, and we encourage you to do the same. We offer a rich balm for your wounds and a burst of energy to be used when you need it.
Iron oxide/rust (rusty sky): I connect you to the core of the planet from whence I come. My energy is strong and solid.
Black walnut (dark brown sky and shadows on skin): The strength of our magic lies in our ability to clear space and provide opportunities for recharging and resetting.
