Apprentice of Cups

Apprentice of Cups

Guiding words/ideas:

Being lost in experiences of love, romance and/or nostalgia; permission to practice imperfectly; emotional immersion as practice for self love; encouragement to stay connected to others (even when fairly self-involved).

Channeled guidance:

This apprentice is immersed in the watery element of their suit. They are in the cup, in the water, feeling emotions on the spectrum of love, romance, and nostalgia. They’re absorbing those feelings into their body as they soak. This large cup, thank goodness, is made out of wood and thus helps to ground them. And yet, the apprentice is still fairly lost in their experience, dreaming happily, and oblivious to other things occurring around them. There is a beautiful sea of pink love and a pink sky behind them. Wisps of dreams and heat from the hot tub swirl above them in the air. They are fully involved in their feelings with no shame and little awareness.

This Apprentice card shares with us a being who is practicing and, in their practice, doesn’t do everything right. And this is appropriate, for they are building skills. This apprentice is learning about emotions. When humans become emotional, they can get swept away, and that’s okay. This is a wonderful card for giving permission to engage in this process imperfectly.

There is an encouragement, however, to remember from time to time to look up and out and to see the world around oneself, to not become so immersed in this practice that one loses connection with other beings. But delight in this experience.

Whether the apprentice is you or a being that you know, this practice of learning and emotional immersion can be very sweet and pleasurable. Give space to this experience. And be gentle and supportive. If the person is you, this practice can absolutely build the foundation for self-love. If it’s another, their practice of love may spill out towards you. Both of these scenarios are very healing and enjoyable.
