XVI. The Tower

Guiding words/ideas:

Sudden and dramatic change; necessary rebalancing; accepting impermanence; synching up with the rightful pace of change; asking what new things want to flourish in the space that has opened up.

Channeled guidance:

This card is one that many humans fear, and they fear it because it is all about change. Humans fear change. But change is necessary and change is good. When the fear of change creates resistance, attachment and rigidity will follow; and the natural flow of change is interrupted, misdirected, or even halted. This creates a build-up of energy that releases in sudden and dramatic shifts. .

When we experience change of this sort, the kind of change the tower card is about, (monumental happenings, things burning to the ground, systems falling apart), a necessary rebalancing is occurring. And this realignment is larger than normal because of a previous unwillingness to accept the natural law of change. So the Tower card, as frightening as it may be, could bring relief that things are finally moving again.

If one thinks of a tower itself, it is a structure that is eventually going to fall. Nature will eventually bring it down. Other events might bring it down before nature; but a tower, in its very essence, goes against the laws of gravity and impermanence. So let the tower fall. Let it be smashed. Let it burn to the ground. Allow yourself to sync up with the proper timing of things and to settle into this path of change that has been wanting to occur for quite some time. Once the tower has fallen, there’s so much room and energy for what might come next. What kind of things are calling out to be built? What kind of community needs to be nourished? What kind of wrongs beg to be righted?

Allow yourself to swim in the flow of impermanence as it catches up with its rightful pace.

Plant and metal guidance:

Acorn cap (grey cooling tower and grey steam): Like a gentle pat on the head, we offer up slow-moving energy to open the senses and awaken the mind.

Ferns (fern shapes imprinted on cooling tower): We are ancient beings, from a long lineage of strength and patience. We hope to transfer these qualities to the humans who need them.

Madder root (orange flames and smoke): We are warm and gentle, and we hold and assist you as your tempo slows.

Weld (yellow flames): Our energy is dense, warm and saturated, bringing with it a feeling of solidity and calm.

Iron oxide/ rust (brown and black fence): I connect you to the core of the planet from whence I come. My energy is strong and solid.
