More information: In a traditional tarot deck, the last four cards of each suit are known as the “Court Cards.” Magical Nature Tarot is more interested in the wisdom of nature than of human-created systems (monarchies, patriarchies and hierarchies). So new names and titles were needed. Jorie decided to follow a more natural system of aging, depicting a sequence of cards that begin with youth (The Seeker), develop into adolescence (The Apprentice), mature into adulthood (The Mentor) and gradually transition into a more spiritual dimension (The Ancestor).

The Seeker Cards all share traits of youthful curiosity and beginners mind.

The Apprentice Cards all share traits of skill building, immersion/obsession/focus, and sometimes false confidence.

The Mentor Cards share traits of agility and skill, desire to share what is known, and generosity.

The Ancestor Cards are embodiments of the element of their suit (wands = fire; cups = water; swords = air; pentacles = earth).

These cards are collectively called the “Coven Cards” because they can work in deep, consensual relationships and collaborations. The word “coven” comes from the latin root for “convention,” which alludes to a gathering of individuals with similar interests. Many cultures also use “coven” to describe a collection of witches or magical beings. The Covens can be groups by suits (Cups, Wands, Swords, Pentacles) or by name (Seeker, Apprentice, Mentor, Ancestor).
